Diagnostics
Because
animals age three to seven times faster than humans and can’t tell us
how they feel, diagnostic tests provide valuable insight into the
health and comfort of your cat. At Arroyo Veterinary Hospital, we
recommend testing during an annual or semi-annual examination. Through
diagnostics, we can detect problems before they become serious. These
tests are the key to good preventive health care.
Comprehensive Blood Panel
This
blood test enables us to monitor and evaluate the health of major
organs, the health of bone marrow and its response to aging, and many
additional indicators to your cat’s well-being. Most patients should
undergo this test once to twice per year, and at least twice annually
for patients on continuous drug therapy for ailments such as thyroid
conditions, incontinence, convulsions, heart disease, and kidney
disease.
Urinalysis
The evaluation of a urine sample
is very helpful in detecting kidney or bladder disease as well as in
providing an overall picture of how your cat’s systems are functioning.
Electrocardiogram (EKG)
This test helps us evaluate the health of your cat’s heart.

X-Ray Series
Because
they enable us to see through your cat’s body, radiographs are
extremely important, highly informational tools that help us identify
many problems, including tumors, heart and lung disease, bladder
stones, and arthritis.
Fecal Exam
This test requires a stool sample and reveals the presence of hidden parasites.
Blood Pressure Check
This simple test reveals the presence of high blood pressure (hypertension), which can lead to serious health problems.
Heartworm Test
This
test checks your cat not only for the presence of heartworm disease,
but also for Lyme disease and Ehrlichiosis, both of which are
transmitted via tick bites.
Fine-Needle Aspirate
This
technique helps diagnose lumps or bumps that appear on or under your
cat’s skin. It is a relatively painless procedure that typically
requires no anesthesia.
Biopsy
During this
procedure, we remove a sample of a—or an entire—lump or bump that has
appeared on or under your cat’s skin, and then send it to our
laboratory for diagnosis.
Glaucoma Screen
For this
simple procedure, we use a state-of-the-art Tonopen® device to
determine your cat’s eye pressures. Early detection of glaucoma can
save your pet’s vision.
Ultrasound
This painless
procedure enables us to see inside your cat’s chest and abdomen, so we
can better diagnose and treat a range of diseases.Arroyo Veterinary
Hospital offers wellness programs that cover all aspects of preventive
health for kittens and for cats in their active and senior years. Learn
