Fleas Don't Take the Winter Off!

Keywords:
For some reason people feel they don't need to use flea prevention products in the winter, but this is so untrue.  We had 3 pets in yesterday that were covered with fleas even in the face of this cold spell. Check your pets out by looking at their skin especially near the tail area and their back, and also on the bellies.  If you have a flea comb use it -  especially on your indoor/outdoor cats. These fleas will set up shop in your house and be pests all year long. So if you see one flea, there may already be 100 eggs that flea has laid in your house!  Yuck!

This is SOOO true! Just because the temperatures drop outside does not mean that there still can't be fleas on the inside. As Dr. Rhonda says, any fleas you see on the pet are just a small percentage of the total population. And, since fleas can carry tularemia, plague and other nasty diseases...it's best to keep them away from your pets and away from you!! Great post!

"Catcher & Thumbalina"
Catcher and Thumbalina are from a feral litter of 4 from Pets Lifeline. They are Polydactyl cats (born with a congenital physical abnormality resulting in varying numbers of toes on their feet). According to their owners, "they have long limbs and extraordinary gymnastic abilities. They were very clumsy as kittens and they learned to compensate for their splay footed gates. They seem to be very adaptable behaviorally compared to other kittens we've had - perhaps because of this."
